The Community Managing Editor serves as the bridge between Co-Line Manufacturing and the people of Sully, Iowa—preserving small-town storytelling while upholding the standards of a nationally respected company. This role exists to strengthen community connection, celebrate local stories, and sustain the integrity of small-town journalism, backed by the resources and culture of Co-Line.

The Community Managing Editor oversees the weekly publication of the Hometown Press, leading a small team of writers, journalists, and office staff. This leader sets editorial priorities, ensures quality storytelling, and builds authentic relationships across the community—from local businesses to schools, civic groups, and families.
This position is fully in-person at the Hometown Press office in Sully, IA. The right leader will be a visible and trusted presence—someone who thrives on connection, curiosity, and service.
There are no sales or revenue-generation goals attached to this role. Co-Line fully funds the paper as part of its community investment and commitment to keeping local stories alive.
In the first 12 months, success will look like:
Publish with Consistency and Excellence – Lead the weekly release of the Hometown Press with accurate, engaging coverage that reflects local life.
Cultivate a Trusted Team – Develop and mentor staff writers and office support, fostering a collaborative newsroom rooted in integrity and community engagement.
Community Integration – Build genuine connections across Sully and nearby towns, ensuring the paper reflects the voices and values of its residents.
Operational Stewardship – Manage day-to-day editorial operations, including budgeting, scheduling, proofreading, and reporting to Co-Line leadership.
Evolve the Reader Experience – Partner with Co-Line’s design team to enhance layout, readability, and storytelling impact.
Strong writing, editing, and communication skills with an eye for accuracy and clarity.
Natural relationship-builder who enjoys conversation, handshake leadership, and community visibility.
Organized and self-directed with the ability to manage multiple priorities calmly.
Ethical storyteller who respects confidentiality and represents the community with dignity.
Comfortable with technology (Microsoft Office, digital editing tools, and standard office software).

This is an on-site, in-person leadership role requiring daily engagement with staff, readers, and local residents.

High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field preferred.
2–3 years of writing, editing, or publishing experience.
Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs occasionally (paper bundles, office supplies)
