Overview
The Content Manager will lead HSSV’s content planning across all marketing channels, ensuring our stories, campaigns, and communications are clear, compelling, and aligned with organizational priorities. This role owns the development and execution of written content, oversees HSSV’s story engine, and ensures our website and digital platforms remain fresh, accurate, and on brand. Working closely with internal partners and the Marketing team, the Content Manager will drive storytelling that deepens engagement with our mission and inspires action from the community. The ideal individual is highly collaborative, proactive, and comfortable capturing photo and video content to support dynamic, real-time storytelling.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a cohesive content plan that supports HSSV’s mission and strategic priorities, defining themes, channels, and cadence for campaigns in alignment with brand guidelines.
- Lead HSSV’s story engine by partnering with teams across the organization to identify, capture, and curate stories about animals, staff, volunteers, and community members, maintaining a robust pipeline for campaigns and fundraising.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Philanthropy, Programs, and other teams to integrate stories into fundraising, outreach, and internal communications, cultivating a culture of storytelling across the organization.
- Create and edit copy for newsletters, blog posts, website pages, social media captions, fundraising appeals, donor stewardship, and print materials. Work with Marketing team to pair visuals with storytelling and maintain a consistent voice across channels.
- Manage and update content across HSSV’s website and digital platforms, ensuring it is current, on brand, and optimized for user experience.
- Conduct market research and monitor design and storytelling trends, audience preferences, and competitor activities. Apply insights to keep HSSV’s creative assets fresh and effective.
- Cultivate a culture of creativity, experimentation, and collaboration in content development. Mentor team members, volunteers, and interns while encouraging fresh ideas and continuous improvement in storytelling and digital engagement.
- Manage the editorial calendar to ensure timely delivery of content for campaigns, events, and ongoing communications.
- Conduct regular content audits across HSSV’s website and digital platforms, reviewing layout, flow, and messaging to recommend improvements that enhance clarity, readability, and user engagement.

Requirements
- Proven experience in content development, writing, or editorial management; nonprofit or animal welfare experience a plus.
- Passionate about animal welfare and a desire to make a difference in the community; ability to work in an emotional field where a positive attitude, sense of humor, and empathy are essential.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style across multiple platforms.
- Strong storytelling ability with an eye for connecting organizational impact to community engagement.
- Experience managing editorial calendars and delivering content on deadline.
- Familiarity with digital marketing tools, email platforms, and content management systems (e.g., WordPress).
- Outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills (with diverse internal and external audiences), including excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to comfortably work and interact with a variety of animals.
- Strong collaboration skills; able to work effectively across departments and with a variety of stakeholders.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Work Days and Hours
Primarily Monday–Friday schedule, with participation in Marketing events during evenings and/or weekends as needed. This is a local-hire opportunity with onsite presence expected, though a hybrid schedule may be available based on HSSV needs.
