Job Title: Content Manager  

Reports To: Director of Marketing 

Department: Marketing Communications 

Status: Full-time, Exempt 


About the Role: 

As a strategic thinker and imaginative content creator, you'll be responsible for constructing compelling written narratives that support destination storytelling, drive engagement, and inspire travel to Monterey County. The Content Manager ensures content is aligned with brand voice, marketing goals, and SEO best practices, while continually measuring and optimizing performance.  


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Leads the development and execution of content strategy across social, digital, and other marketing channels targeting both leisure and group audiences  
  • Creates and maintains editorial calendars to support ongoing content strategies  
  • Develops and edits compelling content for blogs, social media, website, e-newsletters, and reports, using rich storytelling to highlight Monterey County’s unique offerings  
  • Ensures brand consistency and narrative cohesion across all platforms  
  • Collaborates with the Digital Marketing Manager to align content with brand voice and SEO best practices  
  • Oversees content creation initiatives, utilizing both internal and external resources.  
  • Partners with PR on influencer programs, content amplification, and asset development  
  • Uses basic design and editing tools (e.g., Canva, CapCut) to produce simple graphics and short-form videos for digital channels  
  • Supports brand marketing across departments by working with external designers to produce consistent digital and print collateral, event materials, and email assets  
  • Captures visual content through community engagement and event coverage  
  • Manages day-to-day operations of the social media agency and other content vendors  
  • Leads and manages the local content creator program  
  • Collaborates with internal teams to support integrated campaigns and initiatives  
  • Builds and maintains relationships with local partners and stakeholders  
  • Oversees program budgets and tracks ROI of content initiatives  
  • Leads projects with a focus on proactive execution, cross-functional communication, and on-time, on-budget delivery  
  • Tracks and reports on performance of content marketing programs, including partner features and engagement metrics  
  • Identifies opportunities for optimization based on data insights  
  • Ensures adherence to organizational policies, deadlines, and quality standards  
Requirements

 

Our Ideal Candidate: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, or related field preferred  
  • 5+ years progressive experience in content creation, digital marketing and social media  
  • Demonstrated success in destination or hospitality marketing preferred  
  • Proven track record of developing and executing integrated content campaigns  
  • Advanced proficiency in content strategy, creation, and storytelling across digital platforms  
  • Skilled in brand marketing, maintaining consistent voice, look, and feel across all channels  
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing principles, trends, best practices and analytics 
  • Strategic and analytical thinker with a creative approach to digital optimization  
  • Proficient with tools such as Canva, CapCut, WordPress, Sprout Social, Crowdriff, and basic Adobe programs, as well as in Microsoft Office products, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel and familiar with cloud computing environment 
  • Experienced in social media management, content sourcing, publishing, and performance analytics 
  • Demonstrated project management skills with strong organization and time management  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills  
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines  
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally  
  • Politically astute, acting as a thoughtful brand ambassador in all community and industry interactions

  • Competitive salary range of $75,000 -$80,000 depending on experience
