WHO SUCCEEDS AT SHATTERPROOF
Shatterproof is in a period of transformative and rapid growth. We are building new
systems, reimagining how work gets done, and creating more cross-functional alignment
to accelerate our mission.
To thrive here, you should be energized by building, not just maintaining — and excited
to bring structure, clarity, and innovation to evolving spaces.
We’re looking for team members who:
• Build systems and processes from the ground up and improve them continuously as we
scale.
• Take ownership and act with a builder’s mindset, bringing forward solutions rather than
waiting
for direction.
• Influence and collaborate across teams, shaping work through strong communication and
relationship-building.
• Move quickly, learn fast, and adapt with resilience, especially in a high-growth, high-impact environment.
• Are mission-driven and motivated to leave their mark on an organization working to
reverse the addiction crisis.

POSITION:
The Content Writer helps bring Shatterproof’s mission to life through clear, accurate, and
compelling written communications that are grounded in data and evidence. This role
produces content across digital and print channels — including blogs, web pages, op-eds, and email
— ensuring that every piece reflects the organization’s commitment to science-based
solutions and public health best practices.

The ideal candidate is a skilled, versatile writer who is comfortable translating complex
research and data into accessible, engaging content for general audiences. They
combine technical precision with storytelling flair and are passionate about using data to
advance understanding, drive behavior change, and inspire action.

Key Responsibilities:
Writing & Content Development
• Research, write, and edit content that clearly and accurately conveys
evidence-based information related to addiction prevention, treatment, and
recovery.
• Write and edit compelling fundraising and conversion-focused copy — including
emails, donation landing pages, and campaign materials — that inspire
engagement and drive giving.
• Produce blogs, op-eds, press statements, and web copy that advance
Shatterproof’s mission, campaigns, and thought leadership while supporting
organizational revenue and awareness goals.
• Support the drafting of email and newsletter copy that communicates impact and
drives engagement or donations.
• Translate data and research findings from reports, studies, and internal
resources into digestible, human-centered narratives.
• Collaborate with the Policy, Programs, and Digital teams to ensure all content
reflects current data, science, and public health insights.
• Fact-check, proofread, and verify sources to ensure all content is accurate, credible,
and consistent with Shatterproof’s tone and messaging.
• Collaborate with program and policy teams to keep all data and research
references on Shatterproof.org current and evidence-based, ensuring
accuracy, proper sourcing, and consistency with the latest national datasets
(e.g., CDC, SAMHSA, NIH).
• Work with the Graphic Designer to develop data visualizations and
infographics that enhance clarity and storytelling.
• Adapt complex material for multiple audiences — from policymakers and
journalists to parents and corporate partners.
• Experience publishing and editing web content using a content management
system (preferably WordPress), including posting blogs, updating existing pages,
and supporting routine website content maintenance.

Collaboration & Strategy
• Support the Director of Content Strategy in implementing and maintaining an
editorial calendar that aligns with key campaigns, reports, and events.
• Contribute to reactive content tied to breaking news, new research, or major public
health moments.
• Partner with the Social Marketing Strategist and Senor Manager of Direct
Response to craft cohesive copy for social and direct response channels that
translates effectively across platforms.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with internal subject matter experts to
strengthen accuracy and ensure alignment with evidence-based
messaging.

Qualifications
• 3–5 years’ experience in writing, journalism, public health communications, or content
development.
• Demonstrated ability to translate data and technical information into engaging,
accessible content for broad audiences.
• Strong understanding of public health, behavioral health, or addiction-related
topics preferred.
• Demonstrated experience writing fundraising and donor engagement copy,
including email campaigns, web forms, and other direct response materials.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and fact-checking skills with an emphasis on
accuracy and clarity.
• Comfortable synthesizing research, statistics, and scientific language into
compelling narratives.
• Experience producing content across a range of formats — including blogs, opeds, email, and web copy.
• Familiarity with SEO best practices, AP Style, and plain-language writing principles.
• Proficiency with content management systems (WordPress, HubSpot, or similar).
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects in a
fast-paced environment.
• Collaborative team player with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach.

Preferred Skills
• Background in public health, journalism, or health policy communications.
• Experience with data visualization tools or working alongside design teams to
present data visually.
• Knowledge of social media content adaptation
• Familiarity with federal health data sources (CDC, SAMHSA, NIH) and
standard citation practices.
