As Creative Content Director, you will lead how PHS shows up in the world. This role goes beyond producing creative. It is about shaping ideas, connecting teams, and building the systems and standards that bring our brand to life across every touchpoint.

You will oversee the full Creative Content function, concept and guide integrated campaigns, and serve as a key partner across the organization to ensure our work is cohesive, compelling, and built to perform.

This is a leadership role for someone who is both a creative thinker and an operational driver. Someone who can inspire a team, collaborate across functions, and move work forward with clarity and efficiency.

POSITION SUMMARY

Lead the Creative Content team at PHS to develop and execute high-impact, integrated campaigns that drive brand awareness, audience growth, and revenue.

This role sits at the center of how PHS expresses itself across channels. You will translate strategy into compelling creative, guide teams and stakeholders in how to bring ideas to life, and build the processes and standards needed to scale high-quality work across a complex organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lead the full Creative Content function, overseeing design, content, and social to ensure a cohesive, high-performing creative output across all channels. 
  • Develop and lead integrated creative and content strategies that support organizational goals, including audience growth, engagement, membership, and revenue generation. 
  • Concept and guide creative campaigns, ensuring ideas are strategically grounded, audience-driven, and effectively translated across digital, social, print, video, and experiential touchpoints. 
  • Serve as a cross-functional creative partner, working closely with Communications, Campaigns/CCR, Development, and program teams to connect ideas, shape campaign direction, and ensure alignment from strategy through execution. 
  • Own and steward the PHS brand, guiding internal teams and external partners in how to apply it across campaigns, content, and experiences to ensure clarity, consistency, and impact. 
  • Lead and manage the Creative Content team, setting a high bar for creative thinking and execution while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and supportive team environment. 
  • Translate marketing strategy into clear creative direction, ensuring work is cohesive, on-brand, and optimized for performance across platforms. 
  • Act as a lead storyteller and copywriter, shaping messaging frameworks and developing compelling, on-brand narratives across campaign assets. 
  • Oversee content planning and alignment, ensuring editorial calendars, campaigns, and creative outputs are coordinated across teams and timelines. 
  • Manage creative resources, timelines, and budgets to ensure high-quality work is delivered on time and aligned with priorities. 
  • Stay informed on industry trends, platform evolution, and emerging technologies, applying insights to continuously elevate creative output. 
  • Balance collaboration with clear decision-making, ensuring work progresses efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality and alignment. 

Education, Experience & Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Design/Arts, Communications, or a related field 
  • 8–10+ years of experience in creative, content, or marketing roles, including leadership of multidisciplinary teams 
  • Proven experience developing and executing integrated, multi-channel campaigns across digital, social, print, video, and experiential platforms 
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating creative concepting, campaign development, and brand storytelling 
  • Experience managing and mentoring creative teams, with the ability to inspire, guide, and elevate work 
  • Expertise in brand development and application, with the ability to translate brand strategy into actionable creative direction 
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign; familiarity with After Effects and Premiere Pro preferred) 
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms, content trends, and performance-driven creative 
  • Familiarity with content management systems, social media management tools, and analytics platforms 
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with a strong eye for detail and tone 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work efficiently, and lead in a fast-paced environment 
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills 
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to connect creative work to business goals and audience outcomes 
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across teams and influence stakeholders at all levels 
  • Commitment to the mission of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society 

Knowledge of the Following a Plus

  • Passion for gardening, plants, and the natural world 
  • Experience working in nonprofit, cultural, or mission-driven organizations 
  • Experience supporting large-scale events or seasonal campaigns 
  • Familiarity with emerging content formats and creative technologies 

Other Requirements

  • Ability to traverse indoor and outdoor terrain for extended periods of time (up to one hour) and lift up to 20 pounds as needed 
  • Availability to work extended hours during key campaign periods and in preparation for the Philadelphia Flower Show
