The City and Borough of Juneau is launching a new Communications & Engagement Division, and we are seeking a creative, organized, and entrepreneurial Digital Content Specialist to become a founding member of our team! 

The successful applicant for this new position will develop and coordinate content creation with different departments, assist with new digital tools, lead email marketing efforts, curate the City’s social media presence, and develop digital channels – including a new CBJ website - to enhance public outreach and participation. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

A successful candidate in this position will possess the understanding and/or experience noted below. 

  • Principles, practices, and methods of digital engagement and communications techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and managing a dynamic social media presence.
  • Demonstrated quality graphic design and content creation skills. 
  • Capacity for clear and efficient communication of information and ideas through different communication channels.
  • Passion for identifying new and different approaches to situations, problems, and opportunities.
  • Experience tracking community engagement, growth, and measure effectiveness of communication strategies.?
  • Facilitation of proactive coordination with other divisions, departments, and outside agencies.
  • Management of time and resources efficiently to complete work tasks under demanding and competing deadlines and priorities.
  • Understanding of website best practices for content creation and organization.?
  • Proficient use of the computer equipment and software specific to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Ability to adapt effectively to changes, adjusting behavior to evolving circumstances, and embrace new ideas and diverse perspectives. 


WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION

This position works Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm and may need to be available some evenings to document and support public meetings or events. Your office would be located at City Hall in downtown Juneau.

Typical Responsibilities

Under general direction from the Communications and Engagement Director, the Digital Content Specialist is responsible for creating, managing and optimizing dynamic, engaging and accessible digital multimedia content, such as graphics, video and interactive tools, that aligns with the City’s priorities of transparency and accessibility. This role involves timely storytelling through video and social content, monitoring online engagement, analyzing metrics, and refining content strategies to enhance public outreach and participation. The Digital Content Specialist will be integral to the design, production and content management of a new CBJ website.


This position is responsible for coordinating and assembling the City’s digital content pipeline, including social media content management, email newsletters, and website news updates. As such, the Digital Content Specialist collaborates with city departments to ensure consistent messaging and timely dissemination of important information. role is key to fostering civic participation and enhancing the visibility and accessibility of city government through consistent, clear, engaging and inclusive communications.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: 

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, communications, public relations, graphic design, or a related field; AND


Experience: 

Two (2) years of experience in digital engagement,?communications, digital design, content production, social media management, marketing, or a related field. Project Management experience is highly desirable but is not required.

OR

Substitution: 

Four years of professional level experience in digital engagement,?communications, graphic design, content production, social media management, marketing, or a related field may substitute for the required education and experience listed above. Project Management experience is highly desirable but is not required.

Additional requirements: 
Valid Driver’s License.
