Job Description

What We Want 

The Digital Content Specialist II, under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications in the College of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts, is responsible for supporting communications and marketing efforts in the college with a digital focus. A priority is developing social media content to elevate the messaging of our college’s impact: from student successes to faculty honors, event and performance coverage. This position also includes helping to maintain the college’s website by updating pages and posting content, and doing the same with university calendars and digital screens.

Other Requirements and Factors:

  • This position may require work outside of standard work hours, including covering events on some evenings and weekends to complete assigned duties.

  • Travel may be required.

A Glimpse of the Job

Social media content creation and collaboration

Conceptualizes, produces and executes text and visuals for social media. Coordinates with other internal content creators to produce visual needs for social channels. Uses analytics regularly to help develop social media strategy. Monitors, listens and responds to online conversations. Helps to develop and expand existing online communities. Generates ideas for communications strategies.

 

Web maintenance and management

Assists the director with regular maintenance of the website, including posting stories, photos and videos, updating existing pages and creating new ones for new initiatives. Uses analytics regularly to help define efficiency and impact. Includes posting events to online calendars and digital screens.

 

Photo/video

Contributes to the college’s multimedia presence by taking photos and/or shooting video in some event scenarios.

 

Writing

Contributes to content creation including stories, web and print pieces, event coverage, online calendars, recruitment material and marketing/communications collateral. Promotes and covers events and programs.

 

Production

Assists in the production of print materials. Assists in the completion of graphic design projects and/or utilizing branding design templates.

 

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two years of related experience in social media content creation and management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two to five years of professional experience such as marketing and communications, journalism and digital marketing.

  • Two to five years of proven management of a social media program and creating social media visual content such as graphics, photo or video.

  • Previous experience in website maintenance/management.

  • Previous experience in content strategy.

  • Previous experience working with the arts.

  • Previous experience working within a brand environment while displaying creativity and visual communication principles.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced, deadline- and service-oriented environment.

  • Proficiency/mastery of social media channels and emerging social media trends.

  • Proficiency in AP style.

  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.

  • Ability to manage projects from start to end.

  • Proven ability to create content specifically for social media communication.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Familiarity with and willingness to stay current with social media applications.

  • Familiarity with content management systems such as WordPress and Sprout Social.

  • Ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

  • An understanding of branding and working within a brand.

  • Knowledge of word processing, website content management systems and spreadsheet software.
