Northwood University seeks a talented and creative Digital Content Writer to join our Marketing & Communications team. This role is responsible for creating compelling, strategic content that communicates the university’s mission, values, and impact across digital and social channels and drives engagement with all prospective student audiences.

The Digital Content Writer will craft engaging content that elevates the university's voice, inspires prospective students, connects with alumni and donors, and highlights faculty excellence and student achievement. This writer will play a key role in strengthening brand awareness, supporting enrollment and advancement goals, and enhancing the overall digital experience.

Responsibilities

  • Write and edit high-quality content for a range of digital platforms including the university website, AI, digital and social media, email campaigns, and blogs.
  • Develop clear, engaging, and persuasive messaging that aligns with institutional priorities and resonates with diverse audiences.
  • Partner with internal departments (admissions, academic programs, advancement, athletics, student affairs) to identify and tell impactful stories.
  • Translate complex academic and institutional topics into accessible, audience-friendly content.
  • Ensure all content adheres to brand voice, tone, and editorial standards.
  • Optimize content for AI, search engines, and accessibility (SEO and ADA compliance).
  • Contribute to editorial calendars, content audits, and strategic content planning.
  • Monitor content performance and recommend data-driven improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Professional Technical Writing, Communications, English, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of professional experience in digital writing, content strategy, or journalism—experience in higher education is a plus.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills with attention to voice, tone, and grammar.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing best practices including AI, SEO, UX writing, and content management systems (e.g., WordPress).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt writing style for different platforms and audiences.
  • A collaborative mindset and strong interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience using analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, SEMRush) to inform content strategy.
  • Basic visual content creation (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus.
  • Understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive language in digital communication.
  • Knowledge of AP style and editorial content calendars.
  • Utilize CRM tool to schedule and send emails and text messages.
