Position Purpose

The Email Marketing Lead is responsible for building and leading a modern, data-driven email marketing function focused on growth, retention, and customer lifetime value. This role will own the strategy, execution, and optimization of email campaigns across the full customer lifecycle—spanning acquisition, onboarding, engagement, and reactivation.

This role will partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders in Product, Creative, Analytics, Data Science, and Customer Service to create impactful communications that support brand, business, and customer objectives. The Email Marketing Lead will also own the roadmap for the email martech stack and champion best practices around audience segmentation, deliverability, testing, and performance measurement.

Position Responsibilities

  1. Lifecycle Strategy & Execution
    1. Design and implement a comprehensive email marketing strategy across all lifecycle stages (acquisitions, nurture, welcome, onboarding, upsell, retention, reactivation, winback, etc.).
    2. Translate segment-specific goals into campaign strategies that drive engagement and action.
    3. Define key moments to influence and reinforce customer behavior across multiple journeys.
    4. Collaborate with Creative and Product teams to ensure consistent messaging and visual alignment with brand and product positioning.
  2. Email Campaign Management
    1. Develop, launch, and manage automated communications (email, SMS, push notifications): journeys, campaigns, and one-off sends within Salesforce Marketing Cloud or equivalent platform.
    2. Lead briefing, content QA, targeting, and testing processes for all outbound emails.
    3. Manage email calendars and coordinate closely with acquisition, product, and brand marketing teams.
    4. Create responsive, accessible, mobile-first emails that are optimized for performance.
  3. Personalization, Segmentation, and Testing
    1. Implement robust segmentation strategies based on customer behavior, product usage, lifecycle stage, and demographics.
    2. Partner with Analytics to build predictive and behavioral audiences that improve targeting precision.
    3. Design and run A/B and multivariate tests to optimize subject lines, CTAs, content modules, and send times.
    4. Use dynamic content and personalization to drive relevance and response rates.
  4. Martech & Data Management
    1. Act as primary owner and power user of the email marketing platform (SFMC or equivalent).
    2. Drive roadmap for new capabilities, integrations, and tools to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
    3. Ensure clean list management, consent tracking, and deliverability best practices.
    4. Coordinate with Data and Engineering to ensure timely and accurate flow of first-party data into the email platform.
  5. Measurement, Optimization & Reporting
    1. Define and track KPIs including open/click/conversion rates, opt-out rates, list growth, and contribution to acquisition and retention goals.
    2. Build dashboards and reports for campaign performance, business impact, and test learnings.
    3. Continuously analyze performance and identify areas for improvement.

Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing or related field
  • 5–7+ years of experience in email or CRM marketing, ideally in a B2C or fintech environment.
  • Hands-on experience building campaigns in enterprise email platforms (e.g., Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Braze, Iterable, Klaviyo).
  • Strong grasp of email design best practices, deliverability, CAN-SPAM compliance, and audience segmentation strategies.
  • Demonstrated success driving lifecycle marketing impact through automation and personalization.
  • Proficiency in HTML/CSS for email and email QA tools a plus.
  • Familiarity with UTM tracking, GA4, and email attribution models.
  • Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Data- and experimentation-oriented mindset.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in financial services, credit, or highly regulated consumer verticals.
  • Experience working closely with creative teams and briefing content in-house or with agency partners.
  • Background in customer research and message testing a plus.
