Job Summary/Description:  

The Managing Editor of News Content & Strategy is a leader, mentor, and coach. They will guide our talented team of reporters and MMJs as they find and refine their voices and styles while consistently executing the Atlanta News First brand. We are looking for an urgent, aggressive, collaborative coach who will foster a winning culture in this extremely competitive news market.

Duties/Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

- Coordinate with reporters, assignment desk, and news managers to build a comprehensive daily and enterprise content plan
- Collaborate with news staff, other departments, other Gray stations on major event coverage, station initiatives, etc.
- Provide reporters, MMJs, and anchors with consistent, constructive feedback and training
- Run dayside & nightside editorial meetings
- Check in with reporters and MMJs throughout the newsgathering process, talk through approach, elements, and execution as needed
- Approve scripts (or delegate script approval as needed)
- Work with Assistant News Director on training/ professional development/ HFR planning for reporters and MMJs
- Oversee daily resource allocation
- Administrative duties including schedules/ time off requests/ timesheets for GA reporters and MMJs

Qualifications/Requirements:

- Degree in journalism or related field; equivalent experience considered
- Minimum 10 years of experience working in a television newsroom
- Minimum 3 years of newsroom leadership experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience as an on-air reporter or MMJ strongly preferred
- Medium/ large market experience preferred
- Outstanding time management, organizational and communication skills
- Excellent news judgement
- Ability to effectively navigate legal and ethical issues
- Must provide references including:
- One person you have worked for
- One person you have worked with
- One reporter or MMJ you have directly supervised, coached, and mentored
