Job Description

The SEO Content Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the strategy and execution of building organic focused content pieces on WGU’s marketing and video channels. This role provides guidance and expertise to SEO writers, ensuring content is complete, accurate, and consistently updated. Functions as an expert in SEO writing and supports, trains, and coaches other team members. Works with SEO, video, and school stakeholders to develop content that drives organic leads and enrollments.


Responsibilities include building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders in each of WGU’s Schools and other areas of the organization, relationship management, and meeting the needs of assigned areas. Applies deep knowledge of organic content strategy to meet stakeholder needs within the constraints of the website and organic video channels that align with team, stakeholder, and organizational goals.

 

Location: This position requires you to work in office 4 days a week at the WGU headquarters: 4001 South 700 East Salt Lake City, UT 84107. 

What You’ll Do:

  • Write and manage copy for the university’s website based on AEO/SEO content best practices, keyword and prompt query fan outs.
  • Review and edit content created by other members of the SEO content team and provide feedback and necessary corrections.
  • Supervise, mentor, and provide feedback and training for SEO content team members.
  • Create/update pages in the university’s CMS, including blogs, career guides, and others content types as needed.
  • Write video and short scripts for organic YouTube, TikTok, and other platforms.
  • Correlate with School Marketing Directors to develop a content strategy for assigned schools and develop content that benefits the school and drives school marketing goals.
  • Be active in adapting to new working models and efficiencies, including utilizing LLM models to drive content creation efficiencies while maintaining content oversight, human perspectives, authority, and authenticity.
  • Cross-collaborates with communications, alumni, event, and other teams in strategic development of content.
  • Support special projects as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities You’ll Need to be Successful:

  • Excellent written and verbal communications/presentation skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Ability to manage and lead multiple projects at one time.
  • Ability to train and teach others basic content management system skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required. Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or marketing preferred.
  • Five or more years of copywriting experience.
  • Experience with one or more CMS platforms, AI models, and writing for multiple format types including web, video, and other media.
  • Seasoned writer with a demonstrated track record in writing for a variety of audiences.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Management or team lead experience preferred.

Position & Application Details
