Great content should make your audience think something, feel something, and ultimately, do something—and it all starts with content strategy. At Marketwake, the Content Strategist leads high-level content strategy across client deliverables by leveraging user data, SEO findings, branding and messaging analysis, industry research, and best practices for copywriting.

The Content Strategist collaborates with a variety of team members across departments, including copywriters, UX designers, visual designers, SEO strategists, and paid media managers, as well as account managers and project managers.

We believe that a successful content strategy is one that facilitates harmony among thoughtful data, engaging copy, and exceptional design in order to create a powerful and compelling user experience that ultimately converts. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Content Strategy: Develop and execute effective quarterly content strategies as they pertain to blogs, videos, social media, websites, branding projects, and other digital marketing campaigns that align with our client's goals and objectives by understanding their target audience and overall messaging.
  • Content Creation: Create and manage high-quality, engaging content across multiple platforms, including blog posts, social media posts, videos, infographics, and email newsletters. Ensure all content is consistent with brand messaging and meets SEO best practices.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with cross-functional teams such as designers, developers, account managers, and project managers to ensure that content aligns with overall marketing objectives and project timelines. Communicate and present content plans and strategies to clients, ensuring that they understand the rationale behind the approach and how it aligns with their goals.
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee, collaborate, and QA all copywriter copy/messaging for retainer and web clients, and contribute to quarterly retainer client content brainstorms. 
  • Project Research: Conduct research & discovery, competitor messaging analysis, and website content strategy for any web clients. Actively collaborate and contribute to web project site maps and content indexes.
  • Content Promotion and Distribution: Develop and execute a content distribution plan that leverages various digital channels and tactics, such as social media, email marketing, and paid advertising, to increase content visibility and engagement.
  • Industry Standards: Stay updated on content trends and best practices, including advancements in AI, promoting continuous learning and strategy adjustment, and educating our internal team on industry shifts. 

SKILLS

  • Ability to manage multiple client retainers simultaneously while maintaining close attention to detail and meeting tight, frequently changing deadlines
  • Adept at keyword placement and SEO best practices
  • Extensive knowledge and proven experience with digital media channels, including SEO, conversion optimization, tools, and metrics
  • Foundational copywriting skills, including mastery of grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Ability to present key findings and recommendations to clients 
  • Working knowledge of AI research/brainstorming tools, Semrush, and Figma is preferred

REQUIREMENTS

  • 4+ years of copywriting experience
  • 2+ years of experience in content strategy and/or creative strategy
  • Degree in journalism, advertising, marketing, communications, or a related field
  • Previous agency experience is preferred
