Make an Impact Where Vision Meets Innovation

The New England College of Optometry (NECO) is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and creative Digital Content Specialist to drive the College’s digital storytelling and elevate its brand across platforms. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape how NECO connects with prospective students, alumni, patients, and the broader community through compelling, mission-aligned content.

As NECO continues to grow its reputation as a leader in optometric education, patient care, and vision science, the Digital Content Specialist will play a pivotal role in translating our values, achievements, and community stories into powerful digital narratives.

What You’ll Do

You’ll be the voice behind NECO’s digital presence — leading content creation, brand storytelling, and cross-channel campaigns that bring our mission to life. You will:

  • Manage and maintain NECO’s websites (neco.edu, necoeyecare.org, necoalumni.org, neconews.org, necostrategicplan.org, necoannualreport.org) using WordPress CMS.
  • Lead the College’s social media strategy — planning, producing, and analyzing content  across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Bluesky, and YouTube.
  • Collaborate across departments to produce digital campaigns that support enrollment goals, alumni engagement, continuing education programs, and clinical services.
  • Develop and manage multi-channel content (articles, email campaigns, videos, photography) tailored to key audiences including prospective students, donors, faculty, and patients.
  • Create and manage editorial calendars for web and social media content in coordination with internal stakeholders.
  • Oversee production of visual assets (photo/video), whether hands-on or by managing freelancers and agency partners.
  • Serve as the brand’s digital consultant, advising internal teams on digital strategy, storytelling best practices, and user engagement.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of marketing and branding campaigns, measuring performance and iterating for success.
  • Ensure accessibility, usability, and performance of digital platforms, implementing basic SEO and analytics strategies.
  • Attend and cover campus events, including evenings and occasional weekends, to produce timely content.
  • Champion digital innovation by identifying emerging platforms, tools, and techniques that align with NECO’s goals.

Why NECO?

NECO is the oldest continuously operating school of optometry in the United States — and one of the most forward-thinking. We’re a small, collaborative community located in the heart of Boston, a global hub for health care, innovation, and education. You’ll work alongside passionate professionals committed to advancing vision science and improving lives through access to high-quality eye care.

This is a high-visibility, high-impact role with creative autonomy and room to grow. You'll have the chance to build something lasting — and see the results of your work firsthand in lives changed and communities served.

What You’ll Bring

  • 3-5 years of experience in content marketing, communications, public relations, or digital media.
  • Proficiency with WordPress (or similar CMS) and hands-on experience managing websites, including editing, content creation, and performance tracking.
  • Strong writing and editorial skills — you know how to craft stories that resonate and convert.
  • Proven ability to manage digital content across channels, develop campaigns, and analyze performance metrics.
  • Experience producing and managing visual content, including photography and video. Experience coordinating vendors and freelancers preferred.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, SEO best practices, and analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Sprout Social, or similar platforms).
  • A collaborative spirit with the ability to build relationships across departments and communicate with leadership, faculty, students, and staff.
  • A strategic mindset combined with project management skills — you thrive on deadlines and juggle multiple priorities with ease.
  • A sense of humor and a willingness to pitch-in as part of a team.
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field preferred.

Ready to Help NECO Tell Its Story?

If you’re passionate about mission-driven content, love crafting compelling narratives, and are excited about making a difference in health care and education, we’d love to hear from you.
