Why This Role Matters

Christie’s is seeking a Global Head of Content to lead our global brand, creative, content, social media and publishing activity; a role that liaises closely with the regional Heads of Marketing, Global Digital & Product Officer and regional Executive Editors and Creative Directors.  Cross-functional collaboration is one of the keys to success in this role.

Reporting to the Chief Marketing & Communications Officer this role will manage our Global Content, Creative, Social, Publishing and Education teams.  This role, together with these teams, sets the vision, tone & programming for Christie’s worldwide across these disciplines.


This seasoned leader will have proven experience setting global strategy across content, creative and organic social and equally proven in putting those strategies in place.  The objective being to grow engaged audiences, supporting and driving the brand values and maintaining, while supporting in equal measure the commercial ambitions of the business.  This person should be an expert at developing, evolving and executing on innovative content franchises to attract and engage audiences across platforms. Ability to adapt and help evolve Christie’s complex universe across editorial, video and social is critical and align creative strategies with business objectives.

This individual should be excited to lead, influence and energize in a globally matrixed structure while being a meticulous manager of deliverables.

How You'll Make an Impact  

Brand Direction:

  • In partnership with the CMCO, and other leaders, continue to develop and embed the Christie’s brand identity.  Innovate and evolve the brand to stay relevant and engaging in line with our corporate strategy.

  • Continually assess the global brand assets to ensure they are relevant and being upheld, refreshing as necessary.

Editorial:

  • Direct, in collaboration with regional heads, the regional editorial teams and output of content across full time writers and editors and freelance contributors

  • Develop exciting, interesting, engaging, and thought-provoking content for our users to generate engagement and traffic

  • Analyze social, industry and competitor trends and leverage insights to develop industry-leading ideas to incorporate into our editorial strategy

  • Develop original evergreen content strategies that will position Christie’s as a daily and weekly destination for art, auction and cultural content

  • Develop innovative seasonal and departmental content strategies that will position Christie’s as the leader in the arts and culture

  • Manage & schedule global content calendar and prioritize content based on short term and long-term goals

  • Partner cross-functionally on ideation and execution of content tied to supporting our business

  • Continually sharpen the Christie’s voice and maintain our high standards for content quality

  • Partner with Digital & Product Team, Corporate Technology and other relevant functions on improved consumer content experiences and strategy

  • Work with Global Digital SEO team to align on optimization for all content for SEO

  • Use data to create a feedback loop on content performance, optimizing for the future.

Creative:

  • Strong ability to conceptualize and execute innovative ideas balanced with a keen eye for detail and aesthetics

  • Working with the Global Creative Director, and regional Creative Directors, set the aesthetic tone for how Christie’s expresses the brand, in a way that is regionally sensitive yet globally consistent.

  • Define creative best practices across creative mediums and work with regional teams to implement

  • Manage the global photography studios and third-party vendor management

  • Support regional teams with creative needs as appropriate

Social:

  • With the Global Head of social media define the optimal approach for Christie’s across all relevant social media channels

  • Define social media best practices, share with regional teams and ensure implementation

  • Manage & schedule global social media calendars and prioritize content based on short term and long-term goals

  • Utilizing data define the feedback loop on social media performance to support social media growth and engagement

  • Work alongside Paid Marketing to align on social paid strategy to support overall social direction

Publishing

  • Provide direction and council for the strategic vision and plans for the Publishing function (Global Photography & Studio Services), with a strong emphasis on fostering innovation and driving impactful change.

  • Ensure efficient, high-quality output across the Publishing teams, with a focus on maintaining consistent brand standards in all deliverables.

  • Partner with Business Director to oversee budget management, cost control, and the development and management of strategic vendor relationships to maximize value and performance.

Education

  • Provide direction and council for the strategic vision for the global Education team, with a strong emphasis on where Education can bring value (financially and brand) to the business.

  • Work with the Education team to find areas where Education can support Christie’s strategic vision.

Skills/Requirements

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in digital media / editorial / content

  • Minimum 8 years of experience managing an editorial team at a digital publisher

  • Experience of running Content, Creative and Social Media teams is necessary

  • Direct experience in the arts is not required, but a demonstrable affinity and passion for the sector is critical

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high-volume environment, balancing multiples projects and expertly prioritizing big and small programs

  • Experience of and ability to work in a highly matrixed, global structure, is desirable

  • Proven experience growing audience and engagement

Compensation Range

Salary: $200,000.00 - $250,000.00
